A Sustainability Assessment Framework for On-Site and Off-Site Construction Logistics

Urban areas pay increasing attention to new construction and infrastructure works, mainly due the rapid global rise in urbanisation. In long run, these works have a positive correlation with economic social attractiveness of cities. Construction strongly relies on logistics activities, which cannot be neglected environmental equation. An important aspect tackling negative effects (CL) lies understanding source mitigation potential impacts incurred. However, currently, limited robust impact assessments are available for this sector. Given lack rigorous assessments, it is difficult evaluate criteria concerned, especially when comparing innovative CL solutions. paper, we present holistic sustainability assessment framework designed activities based life cycle approaches, covers four main iterative steps: (1) goal scope definition, (2) data identification availability, (3) scenario setup evaluation (4) assessment. To measure both off-site on-site impact, two distinct complementary methodologies used: External Cost Calculations Life Cycle Assessment. The was implemented pilot case Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium).
